Deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, has long been hailed as the molecule that holds the blueprint of life. This twisted ladder-shaped molecule, discovered in 1869, stores the instructions needed to build and maintain an organism. But DNA is a dynamic molecule, and recent research continues to unveil its complexities. The Basic Building Blocks: DNA is made up of smaller units called nucleotides.
